Julie McGrath Throop is a licensed personal injury attorney in Reno, Nevada specializing in personal injury and worker’s compensation. She was born in Reno, Nevada in 1979 and is a fifth-generation Northern Nevadan. She graduated from Robert McQueen High School in 1997 with honors. She went to the University of Nevada, Reno and graduated with high honors in 2001. Mrs. Throop returned to the University of Nevada for two more years of coursework in pre-medicine. 

She went to law school in 2005 and graduated from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2008. She passed the Nevada Bar Exam on her first attempt in the Summer of 2008. Julie McGrath Throop has been awarded as the Top 40 Under 40 Lawyers by The National Trial Lawyers. Mrs. Throop is a graduate of Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College. She has earned Nevada’s Legal Elite multiple years running.

Friedman & Throop Firm History

Mrs. Throop has worked for Terry Friedman since 1998 and is now the majority owner of the firm. Before she became a lawyer, she started at the law office as a receptionist and file clerk. Over the years, she has worked in every aspect of the business and has extensive trial and litigation experience. She has complex cases and cares deeply for her clients and their families. Mrs. Throop is aggressive in the pursuit of justice for her clients and has created a successful personal injury law practice. She shines in taking depositions, story-telling, and cross-examination of witnesses. Mrs. Throop has been very successful in financial recovery on complex cases ranging from premises liability (fall injuries) to medical malpractice. Mrs. Throop’s favorite hard-fought case was a $5 million settlement against a hospital for the overdose of a medication to her client.

Northern Nevada Community Involvement

Outside of her work as a personal injury lawyer, Mrs. Throop belongs to the following organizations: American Association for Justice, Nevada Justice Association, Washoe County Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, American Bar Association, and The National Association of Professional Women.

Mrs. Throop knows the importance of giving back to her community, and she is involved in many programs, including the Junior League of Reno. Mrs. Throop volunteers to help women and children in need in our community.

Mrs. Throop is married with a daughter and son, lives in Reno, Nevada, and has three dogs. In her free time, she enjoys fitness, the outdoors, camping, and backpacking/hiking in Northern Nevada.
